Civil Engineering

The Civil Engineering division's strength lies in its capacity to provide a total package: the client can hand over the whole job - from preliminary design through to building maintenance. The Civil Engineering division consists of five operating companies, each with its own core activity

Road construction

The construction and maintenance of asphalt concrete pavements has been the Ooms Avenhorn Groep's most important activities since the 1930's. Some impressive examples are the taxi and runways at the Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, the Ceres and ECT container terminals in Amsterdam and Rotterdam and the construction of the provincial road N22. Ooms Avenhorn Groep owns one asphalt concrete plant in Schagen and is a shareholder in two other plants in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Earthworks

For the construction of foundations the Civil Engineering division has its own sand dredging facility, rubble dump and crushing plant. From this depot the materials are delivered to the site, along with the required product certificates, using the company's own up-to-date means of transportation.

The division also has the latest in earthmoving and measuring equipment. Projects are normally based on using any surplus soil etc. on site, but if this is not possible, the company takes samples of the soil, assesses its quality and removes it to an approved location for reuse or to a processing plant. Ooms Avenhorn is also a shareholder in Grondbank West-Friesland. The Grondbank West-Friesland is involved in the acquisition, collection, certification, quality control, management and sale of extracted soil, sand etc. and secondary building materials suitable of reuse

Hydraulic engineering

The Civil Engineering division has had many years of experience in the construction of coastal and bank protection works. On the island of Texel, for example, the division takes care of all the maintenance. The range of services includes

The Civil Engineering division has had considerable experience with each of these different types of contract. The division's special products, calculation models and specific experience enable it to offer its customers' maintenance guarantee plans for periods of three up to twenty years.

Construction Division

The Construction division is engaged in the development, implementation and sale of construction projects.
The construction division consists of three companies, which work intensively together but also operate independently of one another. The aim is to create an optimal living and working environment in which everyone feels at home. Sustainable construction is a key priority in this process. Besides its applications in environmental and technical areas, sustainable construction also includes the following aspects

Flexible construction (in line with the purchaser's wishes)
Creation of an attractive living environment (infrastructure and area facilities).

The Construction division responds to this with methods such as timber frame construction (HCB). link HCB The high degree of flexibility this method offers fits in perfectly with the aims of the government's 'Industrial, Flexible and Demountable construction' (IFD construction) program of demonstration projects, which also stresses the importance of the creative use of raw materials, fuel, labor, knowledge and technology. The Construction division's wide experience in all these disciplines enables it to complete building projects that satisfy contemporary wishes and needs.

Research and Development

Ooms Avenhorn Holding is one of the most innovative contractors in Dutch building industry. Making a good and cost-effective product even better is the aim of the Research & Development department.

The key areas of expertise in the group Research & Development Department at Ooms Avenhorn Holding are:

Development of new road construction products and the plants to manufacture them
Research into new laboratory testing methods
Development of special concepts for alternative constructions (pavement structure)
Supervision of the initial practical application of developed products and constructions.
